When it comes to a kid’s first bike, confidence is the name of the game and the new Merida Matts J20’s fat 2.4″ tyres provide plenty of comfort and grip, 7 gears with easy-to-use rapid-fire shifters keep things simple and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes take care of the stopping.
At under 11kg, the Matts J20 Plus is lightweight, in fact, all of Merida’s bikes have rigid forks as cheap suspension forks tend to work poorly but weigh a lot. Merida only uses 1x drivetrains with rapid-fire shifters to keep shifting simple and reduce weight further. All components are as light and child-focused as possible such as the flip flop stem and spacers which allow for the child’s growth, extending the life of the bike.
